December Details

December started out with lots of Christmas Spirit. Christmas music filled our home, and slowly but surely the decorations made their appearance too. I found it is much more difficult to decorate when there's a curious little baby crawling around wanting you to play with him. So, we played and the decorations waited until naps or when Daddy came home. And you know what? The decorations still got out in time for Christmas. We also got a Christmas Tree. We had one other Christmas tree in our marriage. My good friend Ashley and her parents chopped one down for us when they got theirs when we lived in Utah. It was small but that was perfect for our tiny house. Emphasis on the tiny. Besides, with all the traveling we'd do at Christmas it never really made sense to put a lot of money into one that we would only get to enjoy for a week or two. This year, however, we are in a much larger house with vaulted ceilings, and we were not traveling for Christmas... so we bought a tree... a huge tree. Emphasis on the huge. Here it is in all it's glory... all 9 1/2 feet of it. Thanks to Costco for charging a flat rate of 47.00 for any tree (all advertised 7-8 feet). Also a special thanks to our awesome brother-in-law who so kindly transported our gigantic tree in his gigantic truck.

Austin occasionally enjoyed sitting under the tree while he played with his toys.

We sent out Christmas cards for the first time this year. Some were returned in the mail so just in case you didn't get yours, here's the picture we sent with it. We love you all!

Joseph's parents, sister Keren, and her family came to visit us for the holidays. They came out the week before Christmas and were here about 8 days. It was so fun to have everyone here, especially to celebrate such a wonderful holiday. Here are a few of the highlights:

Austin practiced his walking skills in the mornings with Uncle Jeremy and his cousins.

We played in the pool, and found out Austin is a total water baby. He loved it!

We went to dinner at Costa Vida and the Mesa Temple lights.

I don't have a picture but we also got to go see The Forgotten Carols. It was a wonderful way to help us bring the true spirit of Christmas into our celebrations.

Grandpa Wilde arranged for us to have a little Christmas Eve program by the light of a fire in the backyard. We read the Christmas story from Luke 2, sang Christmas hymns and carols, and finished things off with delicious s'mores! We had Mexican style s'mores (with cinnamon graham crackers rather than plain)... if you haven't tried it before you are missing out! They are delicious!

Christmas morning was full of good food and gifts. I made stockings for my family and finished them probably a day or two before Christmas. It was rushed, but it's a good thing I finished the project because Santa filled them up. :)

The tree and all the gifts on Christmas morning. I'm almost inclined to leave everything wrapped each year, it just looks so beautiful. :)

Here is Austin checking out what's in his stocking. I think the orange was his favorite part.

We hope you all had a Merry Christmas too. Now we've finally caught up on 2010 news, so here's to a Happy New Year!
