Happy Birthday!

On the 24th of May I turned 30 years old. Laura asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday and I told her that I would be happy having dinner (I requested leftovers) with my family and then relaxing at home with no other worries or activities. On Saturday the 22nd I thought that I was going to get exactly what I asked for. She surprised me and for my birthday meal she took me to Village Inn for breakfast. They have my favorite breakfast ever, the Ultimate Skillet: Two hickory-smoked bacon strips, two sausage links, ham, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, tomatoes, melted Monterey Jack and Cheddar cheeses. Trust me, it is mmm mmm good!
After breakfast she surprised me again and took me to REI where she let me pick out a pair of Vibram Five Finger shoes (If you want to know where my enthusiasm for these shoes originates you should read Born to Run). Excellent choice Honey!

So on Monday (my actual birthday), we were eating dinner, leftovers, and I began to think that my beautiful wife listened to my wishes. But I had jumped the gun. Laura informed me that we had a time commitment at 6 and that I needed to be ready to play a sport. I was surprised, and curious to see what she had arranged. I never imagined what she actually did. My loving and thoughtful wife called several of our friends in the ward and arranged for them to meet us at an amusement park with a sand volleyball court. I love volleyball and had not played for about 18 months. We had a grand time. Thank you Laura, and all of our friends who joined us! I do not feel like I can possibly be 30 years old, but my body reminded me Tuesday morning that I am indeed getting old.
