I just realized we never posted about our incredible 4th of July weekend. We spent the weekend with some friends in Flagstaff, and enjoyed the sites of Northern Arizona. The picture above is from Horseshoe Bend in Page. It was so breathtaking! We felt like we were standing in front of a gigantic painting or something. It was so incredible it almost didn't seem real.
While we were in Page, we also visited the slot canyons. Fortunately they boys took some MBA class that taught them about Global Negotiations (or something) that helped them negotiate the Indians into letting us take the tour at a 2-for-1 rate. The tour guide led us through the canyon, and then let us walk out at our own pace so we had time to take in the beauty of it all.
After hiking to Horseshoe bend and through the slot canyons we were quite hot and needed to cool off a little, so we stopped for a dip in Lake Powell. The water was cold, but it was a welcome change.
We revisited Slide Rock State Park in Sedona, and hiked up to some Indian ruins on the side of a mountain. It was really neat to walk through the ruins and try to imagine what life would have been like for those who lived there. I will say one thing, they must have stayed in pretty good shape, because it was a quite a hike to access it. We took some pictures of it on our friend's camera, but we don't have copies yet.
We had such a fun weekend! We are grateful to live in a free country, and that it is adorned with such beautiful places that we can enjoy together.
